Life is Better Above 7000 Feet
Recreation.
Santa Fe is beautiful any time of the year, and all four seasons provide wonderful opportunities to explore the great outdoors! Santa Fe is surrounded by 1.6 million acres of public land full of Pinon and Juniper woodlands. Artists set up their easels in the Fall to paint the stunning Aspen groves just outside of Santa Fe. With 300 sunny days a year, it's easy to take advantage of the blue skies and pinon pine scented air! The spectacular light will refresh and renew, we don't know why it's so magical, it just is! Opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and walking are abundant on the many trails in the Sangre de Cristo, Jemez, and Nacimiento mountain ranges . Tours are plentiful for all of these outdoor excursions as well as rafting and jeep tours. In the winter Ski Santa Fe excels as a great option for close skiing, with Taos Ski Basin just up the road. Snowshoe tours round out the winter fun.

Mountains.
Santa Fe is at the base of the beautiful, enchanting Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Here you can explore hiking trails, trek along both challenging and easy biking trails, paint the jaw-dropping golden Aspens in the fall, ski the slopes all winter, or take a shopping trip to arsty, fun Madrid.
Climb.
Bike.
Santa Fe is one of the premier mountain biking sites in the nation. The terrain surrounding the city is an arid high desert environment filled with pinon pines, narrow arroyos, and dry, dusty trails. But when you look to the east, a mountain range rises dramatically above downtown. As you look around at the sagebrush and sand, it might be difficult to imagine the lush alpine environment that's accessible just minutes up a nearby mountain pass... but it's there, and you can mountain bike through it.
